Each Pattern in this Dictionary describes a specific tool or behaviour that commonly occurs when people communicate in remote work setups.

Some of these patterns are general, some of them are specific to certain professions and jobs. What they have in common is that they form the building blocks of describing work-from-home experiences.

The aim of these patterns are to convey the nuances of remote workers' experiences. This dictionary is by no means complete and can be further built as more remote work practices develop further.

They can be used:

  • Accessibility: Features of technology that make information and tools available to people.
  • Asynchronous interactions: Features of tech that facilitate interactions across time.
  • Chats and Conversations: Verbal and written exchanges between people.
  • Communication Strategy: Ways of communicating.
  • Group Organization: Management of people and teams.
  • Habits: Related to individuals’ day-to-day activities
  • Information: Management of the spread of information
  • Platform Tools: Tools available in different software and applications.
  • Relationships: Relating to the relationships between members of work teams.
  • Synchronous Interactions: Interactions in real-time.
  • Time Managements: Managing Timelines and Day-to-day activities
  • Work Administration: Management of Tasks
  • What's Missing: Patterns from offices that are missing in a remote setup.
  • Use of Tech: Patterns of people making use of different technologies.
